Unusual wedding gift baskets all year round!

Don't just think of May and June as the time for wedding gift baskets. Couples have weddings all year round, and you can put together themed wedding baskets for every season. Now is the time to think outside the box: What other wedding themes are suitable for gift baskets, beyond the usual wedding gifts? How can you highlight your services or products in the context of year-round weddings and bridal events? Here are a few suggestions to start you thinking.

Autumn Wedding Baskets

Fall is a favorite season. Everyone loves the gorgeous colors, so start with those as the fill. You'll need a large basket for an unusual autumn gift basket containing knit scarves, gloves or hats, handwarmers, an autumn-themed photo album, a crockpot cookbook, local maps or regional guidebooks for Fall trips. And every couple loves scented candles for evenings at home when the nights turn nippy. If your business carries flannel sheets, include a gift card for the size of the couple's choice.

Winter Wedding Baskets Everyone loves the coziness of home during the winter, even a bride and groom who just got back from an island honeymoon! Speaking of that vacation, how about an Island Paradise honeymoon basket, filled with things the couple will need for a week in the sun? In the winter, this basket will stand out as unusual! A small snowglobe might work well in this basket -- to remind them what they're missing back home. For a more conventional basket, beautiful white, silver and pale blue fills showcase a Winter Warmer basket for the home: scented candles and decorative holders, firestarter sticks, a pair of mugs, assorted teas and cocoas, perhaps a warm comforter for relaxing in front of the fire, and a gift card for books.

Bachelorette Baskets

Of course the bride gets her gifts at the shower, but what about something just slightly naughty for the bachelorette party? This is a time for mixed red and black fills or glitzy gold and silver, with matching ribbons. Stuff the basket with a few outrageous undies or nighties and flavored "personal products," but also add practical things like scented candles, votives and glass holders, assorted scented soaps and bubble bath or beads, loofas or nylon bath scrubbers. An indulgent box of chocolates is always welcome, as is a bottle of champagne.

Here Comes The Groom! Baskets

How often do you see baskets themes just for the groom? This is your chance to make a highly unusual, but much appreciated, basket for him. How about a handyman-themed basket? Start with a fill of shredded brown kraft paper and add basic hand tools: metal tape measure, a set of screwdrivers, boxed assortment of nails, screws and picture hangers, pliers, a tube of grout, wood glue. Add a bit of humor: a small box of Band-Aids or a tube of liniment for sore muscles from all those chores! Tie the cellophane wrap with a yellow cloth tape measure.

Flower Girl and Ringbearer Baskets

Kids love gift baskets! It's fun to discover all the things stashed inside. The fill for these baskets should be bright primary mixed colors. Kids of all ages love coloring books, pads of drawing paper, big boxes of crayons (with all the colors!), watercolor paint kits with brushes, colored markers and pencils, and pencil boxes with sharpeners. Today's kids start working with computers early, so novelty flash drives are great for these baskets.

Mother-in-Law Baskets

The key with these baskets is to break out of the "older lady" pattern. Today's MILs are as likely to be skiing as baking pies! First, stay away from pastel baskets and fills. Instead, try dramatic color combinations like deep pinks or purples with sage green or lime. Red with gray or ivory. "Spa"- type products go well in this basket, or beauty products like eye shadow or lipstick assortments, elegant glass perfume bottles she can fill with her favorite fragrance. To make this basket super-special, include a "starter" charm bracelet that the new couple can add to over the years.
