Valentine's Day Gift Basket Ideas for the Whole Family

”Family is not an important thing. It’s everything.”  -  Michael J. Fox

You love your family—the whole crazy, occasionally cranky, lot of them. No doubt Saint Valentine would approve if you celebrated his day by spreading some love around the entire house.

The great thing about gift baskets is that they can be customized to fit any recipient: male or female, adult or kid. You just have to put some thought into it, and ask the right questions. What is it that Mom never seems to get around to buying for herself? What can you tuck into a container that would make Dad smile? What’s little brother craving that would both surprise and delight? What is sister’s current obsession?

Here are some ideas to get the creativity flowing:

MOM

You can’t go wrong with chocolate, so present Mom with a gift basket that is as luscious to the eye as it is to the tongue. Buy artisan-crafted truffles and nestle the package down inside a hugs and kisses box, using a bed of chocolate and gold blend sizzle

Or if she’s the type who hates to throw anything away, use a red faux leather tappered tray as the base for her Valentine’s Day treasures. She’ll find plenty of uses for the tray once the contents are emptied out. Fill the tray with lotions and soaps that will pamper her winter-dried skin, and slip in a certificate for a pedicure.

DAD

It’s time to “man up” the traditional gift basket. Forgo the fluffy stuff and put together a masculine basket that you know Dad is going to love.

Ask yourself, “What’s Dad’s favorite beverage?” and go from there. A sports themed gift box could contain his favorite java, chocolate-covered espresso beans and a stein-sized mug for those hard-to-get-started mornings.

Or if his favorite liquid is more likely to contain hops, fill a silver metal basket with a stainless steel beer growler, personalized pint glasses, and a gift certificate to his favorite brewery. Don’t forget the pub snacks!

SISTER

Little sister will drive away happy with an intricuts Love Bug box filled with her favorite candy and a sweetheart locket. Be sure to tuck the gifts down in some tissue paper. If she’s teen or between, she would adore a red oval metal basket (with chalkboard panel for labeling) filled with art or craft supplies. Wrap it all in red heart cellophane.

BROTHER

It might be best to avoid the hearts and frills and go straight to his favorite things. For the pigskin obsessed, fill a Football gift box with candy and a football jersey. Include some tickets to watch his favorite team play and you’ll hear something along the lines of “Best… present… ever!”

Or if his fascination tends toward winter sports, fill a Let It Snow market tray with some hot chocolate packets, cold-weather gear, and an I-Owe-You for a lift ticket. Or bow to the inevitable and present him with a Junk Food Junkie box
Stock it with all the snacks his heart desires. It’s Valentine’s Day—everybody splurges!

DON’T FORGET THE FURRY KIDS!

They’re part of the family too, after all. Fill a Paw Print box with your dog’s favorite snacks. No chocolate, though—it’s bad for pups!

For the cat, the package IS the present. Line an oval basket with some fleecy material and your Valentine’s Day gift will be received with a resounding purr.

See how much fun it is to come up with Valentine's Day gift basket ideas for each member of the family?
