Empty Christmas baskets can become your new, multi-purposed best friends. The gifts inside may already have been put to good use, so now it's time to put the empty baskets to good use. Here are ten ideas for how you can re-use instead of make more refuse.

  1. Toy bin - If you have kids, you know how far and wide the path of toys can be. The swath of destruction can know no bounds, that's for sure. Using an empty basket to help keep all your children's play-things corralled can be a lifesaver, or at least a room saver.
  2. Trunk organizer - Set an empty basket or two in the trunk or cargo area of your vehicle. You can keep emergency items in them (ie, an extra blanket, road flares, first aid kit, water). Organizing these items into their proper spot will help you find them quickly and keep up on what items you have, and what items you need.
  3. Closet organizer - Whether it's seasonal decorations, dog items, or gloves and scarves for winter, having a basket to keep everything together can help your closet hold everything you'll need it to. If you have items scattered throughout your closet, they can take up more room than they really need to. Keeping like things together can make them so much easier and quicker to find.
  4. Puppy toy bin - Puppies are notorious for being as bad as children when it comes to scattering toys to the four winds. Having a toy bin for your fur-baby can help your floor to stay clean and de-cluttered. You can also teach your pooch where their toys go so they know where to get them from, and also where to take them back to.
  5. Junk cabinet organizer - We all have a cabinet, or drawer, that catches all the random little things that we collect over the months. These things can range from tools and flashlights to batteries, sewing kits and take-out menus. Keeping them in a handy basket can help keep your cabinet neater and offer you more storage space.
  6. Cleaner corral - Keeping all your household cleaners together can help cut down on your cleaning time in general. You can easily see all the items you have available which can help you know when you're due to purchase a new bottle of one cleaner or another. If you already have a holder for your bottles, you can always use a basket to hold your rags, sponges, and scrubbing brushes.
  7. Electrical container - An empty basket can be the perfect place for all your cords, chargers, and cables. Simply wind them and bind them, label them with what item they go to, and toss them in the basket. Now you won't spend an hour trying to find your extra car-charger for your cell phone, your child's video game charger, or the USB cable that connects to your camera.
  8. Plastic container container - Finding a good place in your cabinet to store all those plastic food containers can be difficult. Having one centralized location can help free space in your cabinet, and can help you not lose any lids or bowls and wind up with odd pieces.
  9. Crafts organizer - Keep your scissors, tape, glue, pens, pencils, etc, all in an easily portable container. You won't have to worry about losing any of your items, or not having them all together when you go to start your project.
  10. Bathroom cabinet bin - You can store extra toilet paper, feminine products, extra garbage bags, and all those other items that find their way under your sink, in a handy basket. If you have more than one basket, depending on their size you can have one just for paper products and one for bottles. Either way, you'll find more room and less clutter in your cabinet.
